Sometimes a step back is a step forward: with its return to the brand’s origins in Glashütte, Tutima paves the way for new horological visions.
The history of the Tutima company began in Glashütte in 1926, when Dr Ernst Kurtz founded UROFA (Uhrenrohwerkefabrik Glashütte AG) and UFAG (Uhrenfabrik Glashütte AG). Dr Kurtz consciously relied on the efficient production of watch movements and initiated the first industrialized manufacturing of wristwatches. His finest products were granted the honour of bearing the insignia “Tutima”, which is derived from tutus, the Latin word for “safe” and “secure”. High quality and exclusive distribution solely via selected specialized dealerships earned the brand an outstanding reputation. After 1945, Tutima found a new home in West Germany and afterwards in Lower Saxony, where highly professional pilot’s chronographs were fabricated starting in 1951.
The family business celebrated the resumption of manufacturing at its original location in 2011, when Tutima debuted the “Hommage”, the first minute repeater developed entirely in Glashütte. Now Tutima presents four completely new watch families: Saxon One, M2, Grand Flieger and Patria – a dynamic generation of technical and sporty timepieces that rigorously uphold the statutes associated with the prestigious designation of origin “made in Glashütte”.
